When you think of an island, you think of the ocean, the sandy beaches, the lush greenery, the rich culture and of course the fresh fruits and delicious food. As a Cook islander living away from home i often look for small reminders that help me remember special things. It helps me remember the simple things that i love about the islands.
The Ocean & Sandy Beaches
Everyone looks at the ocean differently, some look at it and think a barrier while others see it as a connection between islands, some look at it as a place to dive in an escape while others a place to relax as you’d dip in and feel an overwhelming calm come over you. The ocean is like home to me, it helps release any stress that i have and reminds me not to worry. Like this cushion it reminds me to Enjoy the waves.
Imagine sitting this winter near a fireplace while beautiful snow falls outside your window, looking across the room you see this simple phrase on your cushion, “Home is where the Ocean is.” Now wouldn’t that take you on a trip back to the warmth of an island, feet sunk into the white sand and the sweet sound of waves crashing. What a dream right? Well that is the hope of these reminders, to take you to places that you miss in moments that you need them to.
Throughout Polynesia each island has its own unique way of dancing, their own way of expressing stories that have been passed through generations and their own language or dialect. Simple phrases like Whiria te tagata which means weave the people together are little phrases that I feel create special ties to the Pacific.
Customised quotes can be made if there is any phrase that reminds you of home, for now these are the most popular.
Noho me ka Hau’oli – Be Happy
Mauria te Pono- Believe in yourself
E Kulia i ka Nuu- Strive to reach the Highest
Whiria te tagata- Weave the people together
This soft pillow is an excellent addition that gives Island character to any space. It comes with a soft polyester insert that will retain its shape after many uses, and the pillow case can be easily machine washed.
Although A cushion may not be something you can take everywhere there is an option of a phone case or shirt.
The Reminder phone cases protects your phone from scratches, dust, oil, and dirt. It has a solid back and flexible sides that make it easy to take on and off, with precisely aligned cuts and holes.
The t-shirt is made of a thicker, heavier cotton, but it’s still soft. And the double stitching on the neckline and sleeves add more durability to what is sure to be a favorite!
Island reminders are found on the Easy store Paradise Creations. Custom order can also be made so if there is anything you may need that will remind you off home feel free to contact.
